profile of head with brain illuminated in blueMental health care is crucial for so many people, especially those with MS, as depression is a common symptom of the disease. But the people of New York — where MS HOPE Foundation is located — who rely on out-of-network benefits to help them cover their mental health care bills, may soon find themselves out of luck.

In the coming weeks, the NY state government will be voting on whether or not these benefits should be eliminated. If they are cut, many people will no longer be able to afford the therapists and doctors they currently see for mental health care. Denying people these benefits would be a flat-out crime.

If you do not want to see these benefits cut, please consider signing this petition (details below).

NYS is about to vote on including or eliminating out-of-network benefits on the NYS of Health insurance exchange policies. This will directly affect patients in psychotherapy, making it impossible for thousands of patients to pay for therapy without out-of -network benefits, interrupting their therapeutic relationship in the middle of treatment. This is a danger to their well-being. Sign to insist that out-of-network benefits are a required option on the NYS of Health website policies.

That’s why I signed this petition to The New York State House, The New York State Senate, and Governor Andrew Cuomo, which says:

“Stop NYS of Health from threatening NYS citizens’ wellbeing and interfering with a patient’s ability to continue treatment with their psychotherapist of choice! Out-of-network benefits are an essential option for the mental health of NYers.”
